报告摘要:

Interfacial thermal and fluidic problems involve thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer at the solid-liquid-gas interfaces. These processes happen in many engineering systems, such as crude oil flow in a pipeline, boiling water in a power plant, flow and heat transfer in a solar thermal unit, and ice formation on aircraft and offshore platforms in harsh environments. In this seminar, Dr. Duan will discuss new progress made in his research group to better understand some of these interfacial thermal fluid processes and some interesting applications in ocean and energy systems. The seminar will start with an introduction to the Memorial University of Newfoundland and the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, as well as its research and graduate programs. Then Dr. Duan will present his group’s research in the following three areas: 1) phase change heat transfer and materials, with applications in energy storage, thermal management and subsea flow assurance, 2) multiphase flow and drag reduction, with applications in solar thermal and pipeline systems, 3) wettability and liquid repellent surfaces, with applications in offshore energy and marine safety engineering. Dr. Duan will also show some unique research facilities and equipment for the research and discuss potential research collaborations and graduate student exchange opportunities.
